Snowy Eye of the Day

In honor of the ten-foot-tall snow piles in front of my house, I thought I'd post this snowy look I did a while back.

It's not my usual style but I thought it looked so icy and ethereal:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Aromaleigh White Wedding applied wet on lid
MAC... something, soft grey shimmer? From the smoky eye holiday palette from 2007, in crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Futuristic Glamrock wet as liner
Lash Blast

The trick to applying those flaky white shades (like MAC Frost) is to smooth them down with your finger after they dry. They can look a little rough and uneven when applied wet or dry with a brush, but after you press down the flakes a little they look nice and sparkly.

Wearing such light shades always makes my eyes look super black. I don't know if I like it =/

Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire Look

Remember the other day when I said that Fyrinnae's Velvet Vampire was a must have? I meant it. It is one of the greatest eyeshadows I've ever seen. It's a burgundy based duochrome; if it were a nail polish I'd call it a glass fleck. It has little pearls of iridescent crystal-like shimmer that shift colors and sparkle even in really low light. I did this look with it the other day and I couldn't get over how amazing Velvet Vampire looked. I wore Kat Von D Lightning Sheer Lipgloss in Stormy (smoky red shimmer) with it, but my pictures of that didn't turn out. My lip pictures never turn out... But anyway, I took a bunch of pictures of the eyeshadow. Gah, I love it so much.

Natural light:

Flash:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire applied wet on lid
The black half of the Hourglass Prism duo in crease and lower lashline
MAC Reflects Blackened Red glitter on top of the black in the crease
Fyrinnae Cheeky to highlight
Black liquid liner (I don't remember which one I used)
Cover Girl Lash Blast

I know I didn't capture the full beauty of this color, but you can at least get an idea of how it looks. It shifts colors when you blink! It's so sparkly and sexy and vampy, it really does look like velvet. I couldn't have picked a more perfect name for this color myself.

On a sidenote, Cheeky is my new favorite highlight color. I'm going to have to order a full size soon. It's close to the color I would normally use on my browbone, but it's special 'cause it has a hint of red shimmer to it. Subtle, but really special. Makes a nice neutral lid color, too.

Brown/Green/Gold Duochrome Eyeshadow

Just two looks I did recently. Not a whole lot to say about them besides I love duochrome shadows! Can't get enough. Always looking for more. Duochromes are my weakness.

Can you see the color shift in both colors? Blue-green on red-brown and gold on green. Like seeing a butterfly or a moth wing up close.

This was the easiest look ever:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
M*A*D Minerals Illusion applied wet on lid
MAC Blue Brown pigment in crease and on lower lashline
A little black eyeliner (don't remember which)
Cover Girl Lash Blast

MAD Illusion is pretty much identical to MAC Old Gold. For some reason it seems more duochrome than the MAC, but then when I hold them side by side they seem the same. I think my mind is playing tricks on me. Maybe the smaller jar exaggerates the duochrome effect.

And then a play on the previous look:

I took a lot of pictures of this one to try to show all the different colors. There's gold/yellow, green, brown, red, black, orange... It keeps changing depending on the angle. Man, I love duochromes so much.

This was an easy one, too:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
M*A*D Illusion wet on lid
Too Faced Galaxy Glam shadow in Moonbeam in crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Wicked applied wet as liner
Lash Blast

Fyrinnae Wicked is a duochrome, too. It's a dusty dark violet with a green flash to it. Fyrinnae has a ton of great duochrome/multichrome/whatever-you-want-to-call-them-but-they-change-colors shades. The whole Arcane Magic line, for example. I love them for that. But, you know, I'm always open to recommendations for awesome duochrome shadows if you wanted to share your favorites with me :)

Playing with Fyrinnae Futuristic Glamrock

I have this thing about blue... I'm sure I've mentioned it before. I probably mention it every time the topic of blue eyeshadow comes up. I just have a hard time wearing blue eyeshadow. But then there was Futuristic Glamrock. Futuristic Glamrock changed everything.

This was my first time using it as a main color:

My skin always looks so orange and red with the flash... But, these were taken at night and natural light wasn't an option.

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Futuristic Glamrock wet on lid
Black shadow in crease (can't remember which, may have been Stila Ebony.)
Fyrinnae Bifrost on lower lash line
Kat Von D Liquid Liner in Black Metal Love
Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara

I'm not sure if you can really tell from these pictures, but Futuristic Glamrock is made of tiny iridescent sparkles. It's mainly a light turquoise blue but it reflects a deeper blue at some angles and purple/pink at other angles. It's way prettier than I ever imagined it would be. I don't know why I waited so long to get it. Bifrost is also spectacular- yellow with subtle iridescent multicolored sparkles. For some reason this look reminds me of ska. One more thing worth mentioning: the cashier at the grocery store- who was actually in the next lane, not my cashier!- came over to tell me how crazy she was about my blue eyeshadow. She said she loved the color and had one sort of like it that was almost gone. I wish I could have talked to her longer about it but she had a lot of customers in line. This cashier usually compliments my nails and makeup... I bet she's one of us!

The next day I was feeling like I needed a little more color, so I tried this combination:

I think the purple shadow brings out the purple color shift in Futuristic Glamrock. You can see it a little in the first flash picture, in the shadowy area near the outer crease.

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Futuristic Glamrock wet on lid
Fyrinnae Danse Macabre wet in inner corner
Ben Nye Amethyst in crease and lower lashline
Fyrinnae Bifrost on lower lashline
Milani Eye Tech liner in Black
Cover Girl Lash Blast

I love Futuristic Glamrock and Danse Macabre together! They're both duochromey-iridescent and they totally play off of each other. I need a full size Danse Macabre, it's so freakin' gorgeous. Bright grassy green with yellow gold pearly duochrome. Super smooth and amazing pigment.

Now I have a question for Fyrinnae fans. Love Potion. What do I use it with? Every look I try to do with it ends up looking bland or just odd. I can never think of what to combine it with to make it shine. I need ideas for combos! I'm mystified by this color.

Fyrinnae Purple, Green and Peach look

I haven't been taking any pictures of my makeup lately. Truth is, seeing all these macro pictures of my eyebrows made me a little neurotic, so I did something I know I should never, ever do... I sat down in front of the 16x magnifying mirror and over-tweezed my eyebrows. D'oh. So I've been growing them out again and they look really rough right now and I can't bear to look at them in macro.

But, I do have a lot of older pictures I haven't gotten around to posting. This one's from July and I really liked the peachy-gold and purple combination with my eye color:

This was (to the best of my memory):

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions applied wet on lid
MAC Purple Shower in crease, topped with a little Fyrinnae Meerkat
Fyrinnae Dragon's Wing wet as liner
Cover Girl Lash Blast

Rapunzel Had Extensions is a Fyrinnae must have if you ask me. It's just so pretty and easy to wear. Peachy-pinky gold duochrome. Very lovely. Goes well with a lot of different colors.

I think I may have mentioned that I gave up on The Falsies mascara and I'm onto Revlon Grow Luscious now. There was nothing wrong with my beloved Lash Blast, but you know me... Always wanting to try something new even if the thing I currently have works just fine. But yeah, that Revlon Grow Luscious? AWESOME. I may even like it better than Lash Blast. It makes my lashes so... what's the word I'm looking for? Luxurious? Lush? Lush, that's it. Really full and lush looking. I'm glad I tried it. It was on sale at CVS and had a free eyeliner packaged with it so I had to get it. I like the eyeliner, too, it's a Color Stay black retractable eyeliner. Maybe I'll do a review. I want to, I get distracted easily so I always forget these things...

Aztec Gold, Velvet Moss and Faerie Glamour

Here's the last eye I did before I started trying The Falsies mascara. I'm still confused by that mascara. I took pictures of eyes that I did with that mascara and they're almost too embarrassing to post... but I'll post them anyway because I liked the eyeshadow at least. Anyway. Green!

Hmm... mattes don't really look all that great with flash, do they? Oh well.

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae Aztec Gold applied wet on lid
MAC Velvet Moss in crease
I have no idea what ended up on the lower lashline, probably a mixture of Aztec Gold and Velvet Moss and whatever was left on my brush from last time
Fyrinnae Faerie Glamour wet as liner
Urban Decay Zero 24/7
Cover Girl Lash Blast

Velvet Moss looks like it's three different colors, that's weird. I didn't notice that while I was wearing it but photos sure picked up on it.

Very typical look for me. Green and purple. I'm still trying to break out of my green/purple/silver/gold rut and use more blue and pink and other colors but when I'm in a hurry I always end up going with the old staples! Like today, I have on silvery taupe and black. Though I did see a fish in the fish tank at Whole Paycheck Foods that inspired me to try a blue and neon orange look... Maybe I'll try that soon.

Expect chunky clumpy mascara pics soon! XD

Duochrome Eye Look

Hmm... this one looks really strange in pictures. Kinda... speckled and chunky? It looked really shiny and awesome in real life, constant color-shifting!

This was:
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Fyrinnae Envy Me applied wet on lid
MAC Green Brown Pigment applied wet in crease and lower lashline
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Fyrinnae Nijiro Highlight
Cover Girl Lash Blast

Envy Me and Green Brown are both really neat. Envy Me is a light grey with a hint of taupe and it shifts to green (way more than my pictures show, it's much more interesting in real life!) and Green Brown is a very red-toned brown that has huge flecks of green duochrome shimmer. It somehow just looks silver in my pictures. Lame. It was really cool and obviously duochrome in real life. If you have these colors, definitely try this combo! Using Green Brown wet really amps up the duochrome effect but it also makes it harder to blend, so be careful. The reddish brown base stains so you have to work quickly.

I have to do a review on my new favorite eyeliner soon... I took the pictures for the review ages ago but then when I get to posting I always want to post eyes of the day or nail polish pictures!

Fall Colors Eye Look

This one is from Tuesday. I woke up and suddenly it felt like fall, so I wanted fall colors! I think this one turned out great and flattered my eye color, seems like the darkness of the colors was offset by the sparkle on Asphalt so it didn't look too dull.

This was:
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Aromaleigh Asphalt applied wet on lid
Stila Ebony in crease
Fyrinnae Dark Magic over Ebony in crease and on lower lashline
NARS Night Fever applied wet as liner (about the only thing it's good for!)
Laura Geller Wonder Wand highlight
Cover Girl Lash Blast

Check out all the sweet multicolored sparkle in Asphalt. It's such a deceiving color. I had a sample of it in a bag and it looked black, but then I decided to order a full size cause, well, it was my last chance... glad I did because it's a really unusual and gorgeous color. Tons and tons of sparkle, my pictures don't even capture half of the rich color and outrageous sparkle of it. It looks black or charcoal but once it's on it looks more copper or even sort of purple-bronze in some lights.

And Fyrinnae Dark Magic is fantastic and perfect for fall. Rich metallic burgundy-red with blue-purple sparkles. Love this color. Going to have to pick up a full size next time I order.

Now I'm trying to come up with some good creative looks using only Evil Shades colors... I've been really digging Heartless Queen, Steele Green *sniffle* and Devil's Bonfire... swatches soon!

My Fyrinnae Collection: Swatches

I've really been digging the Fyrinnae lately and I've gotten a lot of requests to do a whole post on Fyrinnae, so what better time to swatch my entire Fyrinnae collection?

I know some of these are discontinued but I'm not entirely up to date on which are and which aren't. Sorry!

All of these are swatched over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

So, without further ado... My Fyrinnae collection. (Please don't forget to enlarge these to see all the great detail in these colors!)

First off, because I'm completely and utterly obsessed and infatuated with these, the Arcane Magics:

Love Potion, Velvet Vampire, Feline Familiars, Avian Shapeshifter, Pyromantic Erotica, Leopard Print Galaxy, Trickery, Greenman's Forest, Evocation.

Electric Stardust, Farseer, Warrior Mage, Dark Fantasy, Sorceress, Mystic, Faerie Glamour, Sequined Master, Healer's Touch, Conjurer.

These are all duochrome/color shifting. I tried to get as many shots as I could at different angles and different lights to show it- you can really see the color flip on the bottoms of the swatches, but I still didn't manage to capture the full glory of these. They're amazing. I need all of them. 100% awesome.

Some black-based (or dark based) colors with contrasting shimmer:

Avenging Salem, BBQ Sauce, Monarch Butterfly, Pumpkinfire, Dokkalfar, Fyre and Ice, Immortality.

Get a load of Immortality... have you ever seen anything like it? It's incredible. These make excellent eyeliners.

Some blues... I really don't have many blues, wow...

Bali Mynah, Digital Faerie, 1.22 Gigawatts, Sleepy Hollow, Strip Poker, Necromantic.

Some earthy colors:

Finnegan's Wake, Nijiro, Cheeky, Half-Elf Hottie, Envy Me, Species 8472, Equality, Beholder, Platinum.

Finnegan's Wake has become my go-to highlight color. And Equality is just beyond compare... They say it's the closest they can safely come to a true holographic shadow- check out all the rainbow prism sparkle!

Golds/metallics. They do golds really, really well:

Griffonrider, Vetala, Fool's Gold, Magic Missiles, Lucky Charmed, Gilded Wings, Shrouded in Gold, Aztec Gold, Newcastle.

Why are you casting Magic Missile? There's nothing to attack here! These are some of the smoothest and most pigmented of all the Fyrinnae shades. They go on like butter. And Aztec Gold? I could bathe in it.

The greens! I need more greens!

OMGWTF, Dragon's Wing, Dragonskin, Leif, Boytoy, Tyr, One Knight in Belfast, Dressed to Kill.

Some red and orange based shades:

Rapunzel Had Extensions, Runed Torc, Red Panda, Lust Bunnies, Cheetah, STFU, Lousy Tip, Sake and Sashimi.

Rapunzel Had Extensions is super duochrome. It's a must have. Very versatile. Sake and Sashimi has some great green sparkle in it, I like it together with MAC Old Gold.

Purples. Of course. I bleed purple. As always, these are more purple and less blue in real life:

Wicked, Chaotic Muse, Careless Memory, Meerkat, Lemmus Sibricus, Neo Universe, Changeling, Incubus.

Light, silvery shades:

Jade Ghost, Otherworld, Lights of Quebec City, Lights of Tokyo, Chrome, Mischief Makers, Atomic Afterglow, Damn Paladins.

Otherworld always makes me think of the song from FFX. It's great for layering over other colors to add green duochrome and sparkle- it's almost like my favorite Bare Escentuals Seashell color. Atomic Afterglow is super complex. And I love the name Damn Paladins. They have the best names.

These are the Hot Tempered Colors. I believe these are all discontinued, though :(

Bitchslap, Catfight, Sarcasm, Wrath, Corrosive, Homewrecker.

Whoa, bright. Neon mattes with just a hint of shimmer to reduce the chalkiness. These stain like a bitch but they're really fun to look at.

Some miscellaneous browns and mauves and a couple comparisons:

Fire Opal, Steampunk, Dark Magic (old), Dark Magic (new), Daemon's Tail, Samhain Spirits, Medieval Haunting, Arcane Magic Faerie Glamour (old), Arcane Magic Faerie Glamour (new).

I know a couple of the shades have been reformulated and as luck would have it, I have a couple old versions! Dark Magic is quite different but I can honestly say I much prefer the blue sparkle in the new version. Faerie Glamour is better, too- much more pigment and green duochrome sparkle.

Have I given you any lemmings? ;-)
